Massachusetts backyard habitat
My Massachusetts backyard circa 2001-07. Click on any image to load larger image and start slide show.
Right after I got my digital SLR, this dragonfly let me test it out by taking an extended rest in my back yard. Dragonfly, Canon 100 macro lens. Dragonfly in the back yard. Dragonfly, Stony Brook Audubon Refuge with Canon G6 camera. Turkey in back yard. Turkey pecking at seeds below bird feeder in back yard.
Flock of turkeys in yard. Turkey in yard. Turkey in yard. Turkeys checking out the cracked corn in the black pot. Turkeys in my back yard. Turkeys in my back yard.
Turkey in my back yard. Turkey in my back yard. In 2000 I saw this turkey confronting a cat in a bush in front of my house. A few minutes later I saw the reason for the confrontation as the turkey escorted its three chicks back into the woods. I got a few blurry shots with the Kodak DC290. I got a new squirrel-proof bird feeder in 2004. However, this little fellow proved that it is not chipmunk-proof. Backyard chipmunk. Backyard chipmunk.

A ladybug crawls along a deck post. Woodchuck. The very first image taken with my Canon 1D Mark II in 2004. The lens was my 300mm f4, probably shot from my bedroom window in Attleboro, Massachusetts. Female Cardinal. One of my first tethered efforts with the old Kodak DC290, cardinal in my back yard. Remote triggered Canon S330, cardinal in my back yard. Juvenile cardinal. (Mark II) Cardinal shows off his plumage. Juvenile cardinal. Juvenile cardinal. Female cardinal.
Female cardinal. This male cardinal is a frequent visitor. However the female is more secretive and only shows up at odd hours. Female cardinal. If the female cardinal had been facing to the right this might have been a good shot, even with the goldfinch out of focus. Sort of interesting shot of cardinal but not sharp. Give me another crack at this with the digiscope. Flicker.
Chickadee, S330 on a tether, my back yard. A chickadee jumps a sunflower seed in my back yard birdfeeder. Chickadee. Backyard chickadee. Backyard chickadee. Backyard chickadee.
Backyard chickadee. Backyard chickadee. The chickadee on the left didn’t want to share the branch, so the other one tried to escape by hiding under the branch. The correct part of the scene is not visible or in focus, but still interesting. A shutter speed of 1/250 is quick enough to get a chickadee sitting on a branch, but not nearly fast enough to freeze a tufted titmouse thinking about landing on the same branch. Chickadee with a seed. Goldfinch.

Much less colorful than the male, this is a female Rose-breasted Grosbeak. A colorful house finch. House finch at the backyard feeder. House finch at the backyard feeder. House finch. Some sort of sparrow.
