We have driven over the Beartooth Pass on US-212 several times a year since moving to Red Lodge, but never saw the mountain goats that frequent the area just across the border into Wyoming. Until yesterday. There was a flock of 16 adults and youngsters, and a gaggle of tourists watching them. They (the goats) didn't stick around long, crossing the highway and going up and over the hill within five minutes of our arrival.
We continued on to the top of the pass, and I wanted to check out the rocks near the parking area where we saw marmots last year. We didn't see marmots, but the persistent squeaking indicated there was something in the area. I saw the little pikas running around among the rocks, and finally got a few good shots of one as he perched.
